Linux, 'Equitable'
NB: I dare call this distro « Equitable ». Not that I think that Ubuntu is not, on the contrary, but with this, it will be much more so.
Here is, at last, a Linux distribution which caters to those among Windows users who are willing to try on Linux, and even to install it besides Windows, but who get feet cold enough to be anxious to spare the Windows BootLoader in case they change their mind afterwards, whatever the reason.
That's why we called it 'Equitable'.
This « unofficial » Linux distribution is in fact an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, to which we added the scripts required to allow any user running Ubuntu from a plain liveCD, and about to install it, to choose whether he/she wants to save a copy of the MBR (Main Boot Record) somewhere or not. This is particularly useful to restore a computer to its pre-Linux state, should one decide to remove Linux from it.
Â
We are aware that our views on this are not shared by all, but we reckon that, since what we do with Linux is about freedom, that freedom should be universal.
Our dearest hope is that every future distribution will come by default with this feature and the freedom of choice it offers in a very easy way.
Indeed, it cannot be made any simpler. All you have to do is boot on one of our LiveCDs. As you can see on the following screenshot, you just have to make a choice.
Â

Â
The saved file will be stored in Windows' « C/:Program files », and will therefore be very easy to restore.
As a matter of fact, the main script in this tool is designed in a specific way so as to give any Windows user running « Equitable » Ubuntu the capability to restore his/her Windows MBR without having to perform any task beside loading the Equitable LiveCD (which knows where to get the saved data and how to restore it).

Â

Without having to get up to your elbows into Windows' tricky insides, you will get it done properly and, what's even better, automatically !
Once the MBR restored (that's less than one second later), if you shut your system down, remove the Equitable LiveCD, and start your computer again, you will start Windows and find yourself back in your old and cherished misery, as if Linux was never there.
Should you wish to remove your former Linux partition, you will find lots of simple ways to do it on Google.
Don 't hesitate to tell us about you experience with this new feature, and see how Linux is actually a synonym for liberty!
Thanks to Josepe36, the artist coder who seized perfectly what I was striving to achieve and made it happen.
Thanks to LM22 for his ever-sustaining commitment.
Thanks also to jobastr whose graphical expertise and talent inspired me.
Lastly, Thanks to Yanubuntu and to the other members of Ubuntu.fr who got involved in this and tried their best to have the project conveyed up to the highest authorities in both Ubuntu Brainstorm and Launchpad.
Hopefully, Carnonical will accept josepe36's script and then, well, everybody else should follow, I guess.
